Fired Clay

While walking on a nearby beach,I came across this interesting amalgamation of stone and brick held together by fired clay or cement. My guess is that it is a remnant of discarded material from the former brick works at Preston Pans. The rough local clay was fired to very high temperatures bringing out a variety of vibrant earthy shades, from orange to purple. Sadly this beauty, from an aesthetic viewpoint, was all too often hidden behind surface render or in drains and sewers.
