I recently had the opportunity to photograph this necklace I made many years ago.
It was created at a time when I was making applique wall hangings - using similar motifs.
The materials are enamel over copper, with brass wire and wooden beads.
It's strange feeling reconnecting with it again ...... like greeting an old friend!
Circle of friends
I love how these Russian dolls have different expressions.....
The inset illustration is from a Russian fairy tale
In the old Celtic calendar this is Samhain, the half way point between the Autumn Equinox and the Winter Solstice. The time when spirits of our ancestors return for a brief visit.
In the Northern Hemisphere we now move into the darkest part of the year.
Wishing you peace and joy on your journey ..... wherever you are
Thank you for visiting

ReplyDeleteLove the Rose and candle shot. Have a great weekend.

ReplyDeleteI love your copper enameling, I did some too many years ago, it seems rather timeless. I like your colors and textures. The Babushka dolls do all seem to have a different expression. They look a lot like a set I had. The days are rapidly getting shorter, I try to find indoor crafts to take the place of the outdoor ones. I will be so happy when the days start getting longer again. The candle looks so inviting and cheerful.

ReplyDeleteThere is a very special, exciting atmosphere in your post. The Russian dolls really seem to have very different personalities, each of them.

Your necklace is lovely. Wonderful post to honor this time of year. Very atmospheric.
ReplyDeleteWhat a beautiful collection of treasures Ruby.
ReplyDeleteThe necklace is unique and pretty against your crafted background. I have a set of nesting Russian dolls, I'll have to check their faces. :-)
ReplyDeleteThanks for linking to Mosaic Monday Ruby.
What an interesting subject for photos. You are right about all the different expressions on their faces. Nicely done.
ReplyDeleteThat's such a sweet photo of the Russian dolls all gathered around the candle.
ReplyDeleteBeautiful images as we enter the dark part of the year...and I love that amazing necklace.
ReplyDeleteA thoughtful - and beautiful too - post, full of atmosphere. The necklace has a fierce almost, and bright energy, reminiscent of native American craft or so I feel.
ReplyDeleteHappy that a Crow person has flown in. this makes the darkness full of light

Your necklace is so lovely! I like it. "The circle of friends" makes me feel comfortable and warm. The blackness of crow emphasizes the dim light around it.
ReplyDeleteHere autumn colors are getting beautiful. Enjoy your autumn, Ruby.
Dear Ruby – How lovely your old friend necklace and the Russian dolls! I also like the red cloth with beads where they are displayed on. I’m more interested in the tradition of Samhain from the ancient Celtic than modern Halloween. I think there are similarities in Celtic and Japanese thoughts for night which is so magical and enchanted.
