Celebrating the Divine Feminine - Day Twelve.
"Bliss" (Detail) - Acrylic paints on canvas.
The Virgin of Alsace by Emile Antoine Bourdelle (1861-1929).
This sculpture stands beside a tree lined pathway leading to my fovourite art gallery. Here is a strong and powerful woman,
self- assured,loving,compassionate......
"Let there be beauty and strength, power and compassion, honor and humility, mirth and reverence within you".
Starhawk's charge of the Goddess - from The Spiral Dance

I've never seen the Virgin of Alsace -- she's lovely and quite modern. But most of all, I'm amazed by the candle! I've so enjoyed your posts these 12 days.
ReplyDeleteIt has been (once again) an incredible journey made rich by all who participated-you are no exception! I especially love the more contemporary representations of our Lady. Perhaps because it is more easy to connect to.

Another beautiful Mary that I have never seen before. Thanks for sharing her. Is she in Alsace, or where is her location? It's been great participating with you.
ReplyDeleteFran, she is in one of our National Galleries in Edinburgh and has been since she was purchased in 1930.
DeleteYour painting, Bliss, my favourite virgin depiction, she of Alsace, and the candle - a fine flourish to end the 12 days of Mary with.
